| Could it be the carb playing up ? If so I got one and a new gasket kit for one, I think | |

| carb icing i'd imagine?? the carb warms up if sat idling, but when driven in this cool air, the air freezes the fuel and stops it atomising properly, and / or freezes the throttle flap, meaning loss of power / jumpy running... check it has its proper warm air feed to the airbox from the exhaust manifold take off, and check all vacuum pipes are intactr? failing this, could be carb gasket between carb and inlet?? or, as mal says, crap in the carb, but this is unlikely i think, as it would just swallow any crap?? | |

| I have had this before on my old 1.3... Started working when cleaned fuel lines out, i would try that too and replace fuel filters etc, also cleaning out carb would help if it has got crap in it! | |

| I thought the same with the fuel freezing up but the carb is behind the engine ? I know my Passat back home had that probleme but the engine was in line not transverse | |

| doesnt matter where tha carb is, carb icing is a common think on mk2's....... the airobx draughts freezing air straight at the carb butterfly, this is what freezes, not the fuel itself......or so im led to beluieve?? | |

| Thanks all, i tried extending to induction pipe to just behind on the headlight to stop the draft (taken from what rixys said) but still the same problem. Took apart the distribution cap and that and the rotary arm are shagged so new ones fitted tomorow | |

that pipe shouldnt go anywhere near the headlight......there should eb a 2nd inlet onto the airbox lid, that comes from the eshaust manifold at the back..... anyway, glad its sorted now, lol | |
