| thanks to my pal ash we set this evening to pick up my new car a mk3 golf 5 door 1.8, on coilies, of we go this evening in his trusty mk2 golf and set the sat nav and we head off get there and im pleased to see looks better in the flesh sits really nice i pay the guy fill out all the paper work and head off with ash behind, all is fine so apart from a blown bulbin rewar light we set off 1st gear 2 nd gear 3 rd gear all good pulls really hard really well for a 1.8 as well better than i thought it would change to fourth and floor it clutch slips i raise my foot off it bites again and im off again change fo 5th all good ,the guy did tell me it has had a gear box and clutch done not too long ago but it has sat for about 3 to 4 weeks, we get to hilington and stop for fuel by now its dark as hell and pissing down i tell ash its slippin abit and tell him ill look tomoz and we look around the car in the garage light and im admiring it its cleaner than i thought and the stance it spot on (rake) so i tell him im goin to drive ahead and get home as ive also have my little girl with me to come pick car up i get to hardwick roundabout head up to the fly over in 2nd floor it to head over the bridge i go to change to 3rd and my clutch goes to the floor and stays there "FUCK I THOUGHT " I PUT HAZZARDS ON pull over cheak the cable looks fine cheack peddle fine too ,now im sittin on side on deul carridge with a 2 year old with no mobile and my mate aint behind me what should i do .... so i put it in second turn the key and floored it it started matched the revs got it in 3rd and got in 4th but still seems like its slipping anyways i got home with cable is not snapped does anybody know what it could be IS IT THE CLUTCH OR HAS IT SLIPPED OFF WHAT ??? can anybody help ?? im a bit pissed off cause i was so happy to have a dub again after selling my red mk3 now this !! | |

| take the gearbox and have a look.
clutches are made of several plates any of these could have been broken or not tightened to the correct torque etc etc
also check that when you press the pedal that the clutch arm moves on the gearbox. | |

| when i was diving it i put my foot on the clutch to change from second to 3rd and cluch peddal stayed down first i pulled the peddal back up but the cable wassnt pulling it back tight,today i had a quick look as its pissing down the arm is all the way up i can push it down but goes up no fuss,to be honest im not that much of a mechanic, im thinking of cuttin my losses here!!!! all it is at the moment is a garden ordement!!! | |

| little update i was goin to cut my losses, but im goin to hold on a bit as ive got a mate comin tomoz to take a look a qoute me happy hopefully he said it could be slave cylinder?? maybe who knows ill see | |

| no not yet im still on the look out , if anybody can change clutch on mi golf give me a cheap qoute as im skint just had a qoute for £190 all in so might have that not sure | |

| i dont know which clutch is which mate there are loads of engine codes n i hant got a clue gettin a bit sick of this really | |

| its at the mechanic's at the moment new clutch is in but theres a problem with the gearbox, plus i cant find one anybody whos know of a gearbox for a 1.8 8v mk3 1992 must be cheap ( or free lol ) as repair bill is goin through the roof!!! call me 07553 505 666 or email g_gray69@hotmail.co.uk im desprate | |

| how you getting on with your car you sourced a box yet its a bit strange for the box to be playing up in these as its normally a stong box. it doesnt make sense that your box is broken but the clutch is slipping? where bouts is the car at? | |

| lol my bad dindt know there was 2 pages on this post. i was going to say its proberly the pressure plate shaft thats bent or playing up and they can be changed with the box still in the car. | |

i agree they can play up although i had the shaft go through the plate on one of my mk2's before. | |

| LITTLE UPDATE GEARBOX IN SO IS CLUTCH AND IT DRIVES BUT ........... MY GEARS ARE ALL MESSED UP 3RD IS IN 1ST AND MY FIRST GEAR IS WHERE REVERS SHOULD BE IVE GOT TO ADJUST THE LINKAGE WHEN IN (N) AS I HAVNT GOT REVERERS BUT ITS DRIVING THATS THE MAIN THING | |

| i think im just gonna get the missis to hold the gear knob in the middle then loosen the linkage then tighten it up should be ok then | |
