Mk4 1.8 20v turbo

Hey peeps,need some advice on my 1.8t

im getting a bit well a lot of lag fro the turbo i just bought the car it was stood i beleive for 3 months.....

The turbo seems to lag like a f**ker any solutins? there's no smoke it still dumps and it's not making any strange noises
common/normal/nackered?

also if i replace the turbo wht do i replace it with? ie t3 t4? someone mensioned bigger injectors.
any info on these engines would be much appreciated cheers guys!

is this anything to do with the MAF's that get so commonly replaced on mk4's

Have you had it dyno'd?, they'll be able to give some kind of indication of the problems with lag.....

No not had it dyno'd as yet.....how much is tht and where would you recommend?

maf's??? wht's tht lol

maf regulates your fuel n air mixture, its a common fault for mk4. get on fleabay mate no biggie

I'm too far out of your way to recommend a dyno shop...!!!

i think people use maf's off of mercedes or bmw's though i cant remember which

yea sounds like this could be my problem average mpg is around 17 atm....loads of lag from turbo i was thinking coil pack but possibly not now

coil pack would give a missfire which i would say would be very noticible...even un drivable.


those maf's are very common. so do a search on the net and/or edition 38 mk4 forum or mk4 owners club or even vwvortex.

as i swera another marques MAF is used as a beeter replacement for a vag one.

if not buy a brand new one rather than a 2nd hand one because it will most likely fail again

You could have a boost leak somewhere.

jabba works out to be £30ish each when theres a nice sized group.

beware though if your low youve got no chance.

my 8v didnt even get its wheels on the ramp before it was scrubbing

Ash, Selina Automotive down Garage lane, Setchey have a Dyno, costs £40 for the run, they told me they have all the equipment to pin point any problems, they will tune and tweak everything there.

Jabba is VW specailists and they do VW UK racing cars as well and also not to far as well VERY VERY SORRY for the hijack again

only problem with selina is, from what i've heard, he's not that clue'd up on dubs at all??

i'd go for a MAF sensor to ash......

the 30-40 quid run is what is says on the tin.

its simply 2-3 runs to make an average power and then your done.

youll be looking at the 100-200 mark for a tune up and run session
