| Subject: HELP!! i may have a little problem........ Sun Apr 18, 2010 11:28 pm | |
| ok my mk2 golf 1.6td has developed a small problem that i cant work out! on idle, it runs fine and 100% but when its upto temp and your driving, it sounds as though its running down onto 3 cylinders, yet there is no power loss whatso ever and still flies along quite happily! there's no smoke or extra fuel consumption either. surely if it was running on 3 i'd have 1 if not all 3 of these faults!?!? i cant work it out! it was discribed tonight like sounding like a diesel scooby..........
was just wondering if anybody else using this engine or something similar could maybe shed some light on it coz im startin to get worried about my lil van.........
Cheers

| Oh bugga...Im puzzled Well if you havnt got any power loss then what about Diesel injector starting to wearout, sounding a bit rattly on high rev. I know this sounds silly but could it just be something vibrating under the bonnet when the engine hits certain rpm. Maybe try sitting still and slowly taking it up to 3-4000 rpm and see if it makes something vibrate. I only say that because I cant think on bugga all else. | |

| Lift pump diaphragm may be ruptured (if fitted). not sure on this engine, but this would normally cause at least one cylinder to 'drop' under load. Failing this, you're then looking at compression problems, which isn't good.... | |
